As a multi sport athlete growing up, McKenzie was thrilled to discover pickleball in 2022! It wasn’t long until he was hooked and wanted to compete at a high level. He is truly a student of the sport and really enjoys teaching the strategy and soft game that is needed to develop a well rounded player. As a former lacrosse player he relies on his hand eye coordination for fast hands at the kitchen. With podium finishes in every tournament he’s entered, he has plenty of experience competing at a high level. As a natural leader he enjoys coaching and helping people reach the next level of their game!
Hunter brings an enthusiastic attitude and a love of teaching to 3rd Shot Longmont! Originally discovering pickleball while on a family vacation many years ago, he was instantly addicted.
In the time since, he has competed in tournaments at all levels and acutely understands how to handle the challenges players face on court.
He is excited to work with you to achieve your pickleball goals, spread his love of the game, and help to build a warm, inviting, and capable community of players at 3rd Shot Longmont.
Jon is a Colorado native and played many sports growing up. Of all the sports he played, he focused mainly on soccer and badminton. He competed competitively in soccer on a state level and competed in badminton on a national level where he attained #2 in the nation in singles and #1 in the nation in mixed doubles. His father was in the 1960 Rome Olympics as a decathlete, and this is where Jon gets his athleticism and competitive nature.
Jon was in the U.S. Army from 2005-2017 as a UH-60 Blackhawk Pilot and ultimately became an Instructor Pilot. During this time, he discovered his love for teaching because he enjoys watching people grow and develop into their full potential.
In January of 2023, Jon discovered pickleball and has not looked back since! In October of 2023, he competed in his first tournament and took 1st place in men’s doubles 4.0+. He loves to study all aspects of pickleball, and this motivated him to become a PPR Certified Associate Coach in January of 2024. His love for pickleball shows in his desire to constantly be on the court improving and he loves to teach others so that their game can always be improving too.
Scott grew up playing multiple sports. His primary focus was soccer and running. Then, just running. He has spent the last 25 years racing around the world at distances from 5K to 100 Miles. In August of 2022, Scott thought a new activity might break up the monotony of long distance running…pickleball. Not only did he love to play the game, but he loved the social aspect of the sport. Since entering his first tournament in September of 2022 and winning a medal, Scott has played in leagues and tournaments across the Front Range.
Developing a true passion for the game, Scott decided the best way to share was to learn to teach. In May of 2023 Scott was certified through Professional Pickleball Registry. He continues to develop his game and his teaching method. Scott believes in meeting students where they are…being realistic…having fun. He focuses on the student. Scott will customize the lesson to develop the student’s skill and confidence to get to the next level.
Scott continues to race around the world and play as much pickleball as possible. He is also a certified yoga instructor and running coach.
John is an IPTPA-certified pickleball coach and Teaching Pro with a strong tennis background and a lifelong love of racquet sports. After retiring from a 35-year career in the automotive and tech industries-where he held various engineering and management roles-he turned his attention to pickleball and hasn't looked back.
John has been teaching pickleball at the Lafayette Rec Center for the past year and brings a deep passion for coaching to the court. He has also coached youth teams in baseball, basketball, flag football, and soccer, making his approach both well-rounded and approachable for players of all levels.
He loves pickleball for its mix of exercise, competition, and social connection. You'll often find him in Gold Open play, small group mixers, and both doubles and singles matches. A fan of slice and topspin shots, he proudly earned a silver medal in his first pickleball tournament in December 2024.
Known for being a bit forgetful with names (expect a name tag in class!), John brings humor, energy, and enthusiasm to every session. Off the court, he gives back to the community by hosting bike, skateboard, and ukulele build events through the Longmont-based nonprofit Can'd Aid.
Abby Brause grew up in a “tennis family” and played the sport for many years in addition to being a competitive figure skater and nordic skiier. She learned to play pickleball from her parents over a decade ago, but didn’t start playing regularly until 2022 as a means to get out of the house and be active, having worked from a home office for nearly 20 years. She now plays pickleball competitively and enjoys participating in tournaments, earning a growing collection of medals.
Abby started teaching pickleball in late 2023 to share her love for the sport, and became PPR-certified in April 2024 immediately after retiring from her corporate career in Marketing & Communications.
Abby’s teaching philosophy focuses on showing proper technique to avoid injuries and ensuring that people with lower mobility can enjoy the sport as much as more athletic players. Her greatest joy as an instructor is seeing her students light up with each success and sharing in their enthusiasm as new players realize just how fun pickleball is.
